Chrystia Freeland is a woman of many talents, with a career spanning from journalism to politics. Born in Peace River, Alberta in 1968, Freeland’s interest in international affairs and politics began at a young age. She studied at Harvard University and later became a journalist, reporting for top publications such as the Financial Times, The Globe and Mail, and Reuters. Her career as a writer and editor led her to author two books, “Sale of the Century: Russia’s Wild Ride from Communism to Capitalism” and “Plutocrats: The Rise of the New Global Super-Rich and the Fall of Everyone Else”.
In 2013, Freeland took her knowledge and experience in global economics and politics to the political arena, winning her first election as a Member of Parliament for Toronto’s University-Rosedale riding. She quickly rose through the ranks and in 2015, was appointed as Canada’s Minister of International Trade under Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. In 2018, she was sworn in as the first female Deputy Prime Minister of Canada, a role in which she continues to serve today.
